Important Notes
- Employee Contribution: The calculator uses a 10% employee contribution on Basic Pay + DA for estimation.
- Government Contribution: The calculator uses a 14% government contribution on Basic Pay + DA for estimation.
- Basic Pay Projection: For estimation, Basic Pay is assumed to increase by 3% annually and is rounded to the nearest ₹100. Actual salary progression may differ depending on Pay Level, Pay Matrix cell, promotion and other service-related changes.
- Expected NPS ROI: The ROI entered by the user is an assumed annual rate of return. NPS returns are market-linked, so actual returns may be higher or lower.
- Extra Contribution: Additional NPS contributions can be entered as monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, yearly or one-time investments.
- Retirement / Exit Age: The calculator allows an exit age up to 60 years. Age 60 is treated as the superannuation scenario, while an age below 60 is treated as premature/early exit for calculation purposes.
- Annuity & Lump-sum: Both percentages are automatically linked and always total 100%. At age 60, the calculator uses a minimum 40% annuity and maximum 60% lump-sum. For exit below 60, it uses a minimum 80% annuity and maximum 20% lump-sum.
- Expected Annuity Rate: The rate entered by the user is used to estimate the pension from the amount allocated for annuity purchase. Actual annuity rates may vary at the time of exit.
- DA Projection: Future changes in DA are not projected because future DA rates cannot be known in advance. The calculator uses the assumed/current DA rate for estimation.
- DPC & MACP: Benefits from DPC, MACP, promotion or other service-related changes are not included in this calculation.
- Existing NPS Corpus: The existing NPS corpus entered by the user is included in the projected retirement corpus.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

This NPS calculator is designed for government employees covered under the National Pension System (NPS). It provides an estimated retirement corpus, annuity amount, lump-sum amount and monthly pension based on the information entered by the user.
2. What information is required to use the NPS Calculator?
You need to enter your Date of Birth, Date of Joining Service, Pay Level, Current Basic Pay, Existing NPS Corpus, Expected NPS ROI, Extra Contribution, Extra Contribution Frequency, Retirement/Exit Age, Annuity Purchase Ratio and Expected Annuity Rate.
3. How is the employee’s NPS contribution calculated?
For this calculator, the employee contribution is calculated at 10% of Basic Pay + DA.
4. How is the Government contribution calculated?
The calculator uses a 14% government contribution on Basic Pay + DA for the projection.
5. Can I enter my current Basic Pay manually?
Yes. You can select your Pay Level and separately enter your Current Basic Pay. The Basic Pay is not restricted to a dropdown list.
6. Does the calculator assume an annual salary increment?
Yes. For projection purposes, the calculator assumes a 3% annual increase in Basic Pay, rounded to the nearest ₹100. This is an estimate and actual salary progression can differ.
7. Does the calculator include future DA increases?
No. Future DA increases are not projected because the future DA rate cannot be known in advance. The calculator uses the assumed/current DA rate for its estimation.
8. Can I add an extra contribution to my NPS account?
Yes. You can enter an additional contribution apart from the regular contribution and select whether you want to make it monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, yearly or one-time.
9. What happens if I make an extra NPS contribution?
The calculator adds the extra contribution to the projected NPS corpus and estimates how it may affect your retirement corpus based on the selected expected NPS ROI.
10. Can I enter my existing NPS corpus?
Yes. Enter your current Existing NPS Total Corpus. The calculator includes this amount in the projected corpus calculation.
11. What is the Expected NPS ROI?
Expected NPS ROI is the estimated annual rate of return you expect your NPS investments to generate. Since NPS returns are market-linked, the actual return can be different from the rate entered.
12. What retirement age can I select?
The calculator allows an exit/retirement age up to 60 years. You can select a lower age if you want to estimate a premature or early exit scenario.
13. What is the annuity and lump-sum rule at age 60?
For the calculator’s superannuation scenario at age 60, the applicable minimum annuity and maximum lump-sum are shown as 40% and 60%, respectively.
14. What happens if I select a retirement age below 60?
For the calculator’s premature/early exit scenario, it applies the 80% minimum annuity and 20% maximum lump-sumsetting.
15. Are Annuity Purchase Ratio and Lump-sum Withdrawal linked?
Yes. They are automatically linked so that their combined percentage remains 100%. For example, selecting 50% annuity automatically sets the lump-sum to 50%.
16. What is the Expected Annuity Rate?
The Expected Annuity Rate is the estimated annual rate used to calculate the pension from the amount allocated for purchasing an annuity. The actual annuity payout depends on the annuity product and prevailing rates at the time of purchase.
17. How is the estimated monthly pension calculated?
The calculator first estimates the amount allocated for annuity purchase. It then applies the Expected Annuity Rate entered by the user and divides the resulting annual pension by 12 to estimate the monthly pension.
18. Does this calculator guarantee my future NPS pension?
No. This is an estimation tool only. NPS returns are market-linked, and actual corpus, annuity and pension amounts can differ from the calculator’s projections.
19. Does the calculator include DPC and MACP benefits?
No. DPC and MACP benefits are not included in this calculator. Promotions, MACP, DPC and other service-related changes can affect actual Basic Pay and therefore actual NPS contributions.
20. Can the actual retirement corpus be different from the calculator’s result?
Yes. Actual results may differ because of changes in NPS returns, salary, DA, contribution patterns, promotions, service conditions, annuity rates and the rules applicable at the time of exit.
21. Who should use this NPS Calculator?
It is primarily intended for government employees covered under NPS who want an indicative estimate of their future NPS corpus, lump-sum withdrawal and pension.
22. Is the result provided by this calculator an official NPS calculation?
No. The result is an informational estimate and should not be treated as an official NPS statement, pension sanction or guaranteed benefit. For actual benefits, users should refer to the applicable government/NPS rules and their official NPS account records.
