How Your Leave Encashment Was Calculated
Calculation Formula
This calculator is designed primarily for Central Government civilian employees governed by the applicable CCS (Leave) Rules. It provides an estimate for informational purposes only. For Retirement and Death in Service, Earned Leave and Half Pay Leave are considered subject to the applicable overall 300-day ceiling. For Resignation or Quitting Service, the calculator considers half of Earned Leave at credit subject to the applicable maximum of 150 days. For LTC leave encashment, the calculator applies the applicable per-occasion and career limits based on the information entered by the user. The actual amount payable may differ depending on the employee’s official leave account, previous leave encashments, applicable rules, service conditions and departmental records. No income tax, TDS or other deductions are calculated by this tool.
How Does the Leave Encashment Calculator Work?
The calculator first asks you to select the type of leave encashment:
- Retirement / Superannuation
- Death in Service
- Resignation / Quitting Service
- Leave Encashment with LTC
The calculator then asks for the information relevant to that situation.
For applicable retirement and death cases, the calculator considers Earned Leave and Half Pay Leave within the applicable overall ceiling.
For resignation/quitting service, the calculator considers the applicable portion of Earned Leave.
For LTC, the calculator considers the applicable per-occasion limit, career limit and minimum leave-balance condition based on the information entered.
Leave Encashment on Retirement
On retirement/superannuation, eligible leave can be converted into a cash equivalent subject to the applicable Government rules.
The calculator considers:
- Last Basic Pay
- DA
- Earned Leave at credit
- Half Pay Leave at credit
The applicable 300-day overall ceiling is automatically applied.
Basic Formula
For EL:
EL Encashment = (Basic Pay + DA) ÷ 30 × Encashable EL Days
For HPL, the calculator uses the applicable Half Pay Leave salary component along with DA.
The final result shows:
EL Amount + HPL Amount = Estimated Total Leave Encashment
Leave Encashment on Death in Service
When an employee dies while in service, eligible leave at credit may be converted into cash equivalent for the eligible beneficiary/family, subject to the applicable rules.
The calculator takes:
- Last Basic Pay
- DA
- EL at credit
- HPL at credit
and applies the applicable overall ceiling.
The calculator separately displays:
- Encashable EL
- Encashable HPL
- EL amount
- HPL amount
- Total estimated leave encashment
Leave Encashment on Resignation
Leave encashment on resignation or quitting service is subject to different conditions from retirement.
For the calculator, the applicable calculation is based on half of Earned Leave at credit, subject to the applicable maximum of 150 days.
HPL is not included in this mode.
Formula
Encashable EL = 50% of EL at Credit
subject to the applicable maximum.
Then:
Leave Encashment = (Basic Pay + DA) ÷ 30 × Encashable EL Days
Leave Encashment with LTC
Eligible Government employees may be permitted to encash Earned Leave along with LTC subject to the applicable conditions.
The calculator asks for:
- Basic Pay
- DA
- EL balance before LTC
- EL already encashed under LTC during the career
- EL requested for encashment
- EL being availed with LTC
The calculator then checks the applicable:
- 10-day per-occasion limit
- 60-day career limit
- 30-day minimum EL balance condition
The final eligible days are calculated automatically.
